Elle s&#8217;appelait \u00e0 l&#8217;origine \u00abCh\u00e2teau Raoul\u00bb, l&#8217;actuel ch\u00e2teau qui abrite aujourd&#8217;hui la pr\u00e9fecture \u00e9tant \u00e9difi\u00e9 \u00e0 l&#8217;emplacement d&#8217;un ch\u00e2teau construit au X<sup>e<\/sup> si\u00e8cle par Raoul le Large, seigneur de D\u00e9ols. En 1188, le ch\u00e2teau est d\u00e9tenu par Philippe Auguste, soucieux de prot\u00e9ger de la fraude l&#8217;activit\u00e9 draperie centr\u00e9e sur la ville et le long des bords de l&#8217;Indre. De 1612 \u00e0 1736, c&#8217;\u00e9tait un duch\u00e9 de la maison de Cond\u00e9 et de 1742 \u00e0 1744 \u00e9tait sous le contr\u00f4le de la marquise de la Tournelle.
