Class\u00e9e en 2007, elle occupe une surface de\u00a0<span title=\"35\u00a0000\u00a0000 m\u00b2 ou 35 km\u00b2\">3\u00a0500<\/span>\u00a0hectares.<\/p>\n<p>En tant qu&#8217;aire marine prot\u00e9g\u00e9e, elle prot\u00e8ge la totalit\u00e9 des lagons sauf celui de St Pierre, mais aussi les segments de c\u00f4te rocheuse qui les isolent les uns des autres sur les 40 km de lin\u00e9aire c\u00f4tier dont elle a la responsabilit\u00e9 sur la c\u00f4te\u00a0occidentale de l&#8217;\u00eele.<\/p>\n<p>La partie du littoral concern\u00e9e s&#8217;\u00e9tend du\u00a0Cap la Houssaye\u00a0(Saint-Paul), au Nord, jusqu&#8217;\u00e0 la\u00a0Roche des oiseaux\u00a0(L&#8217;\u00c9tang-Sal\u00e9), au Sud, incluant les c\u00f4tes de 5\u00a0communes\u00a0:\u00a0Saint-Paul\u00a0(dont les sites de\u00a0Boucan Canot,\u00a0Saint-Gilles les Bains,\u00a0L&#8217;Ermitage-les-Bains\u00a0et\u00a0La Saline les Bains),\u00a0Trois-Bassins,\u00a0Saint-Leu,\u00a0Les Avirons\u00a0et\u00a0L&#8217;\u00c9tang-Sal\u00e9.
