Western Asia Map
Western Asia, West Asia, Southwest Asia or Southwestern Asia are terms that describe the westernmost portion of Asia.
The terms are partly coterminous with the Middle East - which describes geographical position in relation to Western Europe rather than location within Asia, the main difference usually being the exclusion of the majority of Egypt (which would be counted as part of North Africa) and the inclusion of the Caucasus.
Due to this perceived Eurocentrism, international organizations such as the United Nations, have replaced Middle East and Near East with Western Asia, for example the purposes of grouping countries statistically, etc., it is sometimes used instead of the more geopolitical term "Middle East".
The total population of Western Asia is an estimated 300 million as of 2015. Map 2000.
