The construction of the metro in Brasilia (Brazil) began in 1992 and was supposed to be ready in 1999, but with delay in the works, it was completed in early 2001.

The commercial service began to circulate on September 24, 2001. During the first months it operated only from 10: 00 to 16: 00 along 32 kilometers of the network of 41 kilometers (from the Estación Central de Autobuses to Taguatinga and el Helecho) with 11 stations. The remaining stations were delivered in 2002.

The lines, green and orange, start at the Central station (Estación Central de Autobuses) and run together, the lines separates in Aguas Claras: the orange line goes south, to Samambaia, and the green line follows Taguatinga and finally, to Ceilândia. The subway is underground between Central Station and the Ala del Sur station, then circulates overground. The stations are equipped with stairs and elevators.
