Typhoon Namtheun churns ever closer to Japan in this Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) image, acquired on July 28, 2004, by the MODIS sensor on NASA’s Terra satellite. At the time this image was taken, the storm had maximum sustained winds of 80 knots (92 miles per hour).
