Quebec and Eastern Canada. Snow and ice dominate this late-winter Terra MODIS image of eastern Canada and the northeastern US state of Maine. On land, snow and ice highlight the regionŽs geographical features, such as the large number of lakes and reservoirs and the varied terrain. Particularly conspicuous by their uniform white covering of ice are Reservoir Manicouagan, in Quebec province on the upper left edge of the image; Smallwood Reservoir, near the western border of Newfoundland province in the upper image-center; and Lake Melville, on the lower coast of Newfoundland province in the imageŽs upper right quadrant. Snow and ice are also present off land; on the Labrador Sea in the northeast, on the Gulf of St. Lawrence at image center, on the Atlantic Ocean off the eastern coast of Newfoundland Island, and in the Cabot Strait (between Nova Scotia and Newfoundland Island). Clouds are also scattered throughout the scene, but are concentrated mostly over the waters of the Atlantic south of the Cabot Strait. This true-color image was acquired on March 16, 2002.
