Meta Department 2003
Meta is one of thirty-two departments that, together with Bogota, Capital District, form the Republic of Colombia. Its capital is Villavicencio. It is located in the center of the country, in the Orinoquía region, bordering to the north with Bogota, Capital District, Cundinamarca and Casanare, to the east with Vichada, to the south with Guaviare and Caquetá, and to the west with Huila. With 85,635 km² it is the fourth largest department - behind Amazonas, Vichada and Caquetá - and with 11.23 hab / km², the tenth less densely populated, in front of Arauca, Chocó, Casanare, Caqueta, Guaviare, Vaupés, Amazonas, Vichada and Guainía, the less densely populated.
